REV. FREDRICK EARLY DENNARD (Chaplain) After serving in the military, Rev. Fred moved to New York in 1946 to attend Julliard School of Music. In that same year, he began singing in the choir and became a member of The Riverside Church.
After earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Brooklyn College, Rev. Dennard attended Union Theological Seminary to explore how the physical world is a symbol for spiritual reality. Rev. Dennard served as the Director of Education at the Concord Baptist Church, in Brooklyn. Rev. Fred received his certificate in Pastoral Counseling from the American Foundation of Religion and Psychiatry, now known as the Blanton-Peale Institute. Shortly, thereafter, he was called to serve at the East Harlem Protestant Parish.
In 1966, Rev. Fred and his late wife Doris birthed the Harlem Interfaith Counseling Services. For over 37 years, he and Doris co-led this psycho- spiritual, mental health agency that brought healing and wellness to children and adults throughout Harlem. After retiring, in 1995, Rev. Fred and Doris founded Peacemakers, Inc., a psycho-spiritual and human development corporation. An ordained American Baptist minister, Rev. Fred has facilitated numerous psycho-spiritual workshops for a host of church and community organizations throughout the New York Metropolitan area. He is an audacious counselor, guide, griot and motivator whose trademark sayings are “It’s all an inside job” and “Unconditional love is my way of life.” At age 90, Rev. Fred is an amazing force.
